  • The aim of the module is to teach the student an overview of available herbs in South Africa, as well as other western herbs. The student will be able to identify some plants, compile basic formulations and have an overview of African Traditional Herbs & dangerous plants.
  • Students will learn simple formulations and basic practical making of tinctures.
  • Prerequisite is completion of Ethnobotany 1
  • Pharmacokinetics: Remedy Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion & Sensitivity
  • Herbs for various disorders
  • Herbs: Medicinal Herbs of South Africa: Botanical description, parts used, Medicinal uses, Preparation & dosage, Active ingredients, Pharmacological effects & areas of distribution
  • Various Other western Herbs
  • Psychoactive Plants
  • Other African Traditional Medicinal plants
  • Poisonous Plants of South Africa
  • Dosage and Formulation Criteria
  • Herbs for the various body systems
  • Class Practical: Herbal Tincture Preparations, and introduction to creams.
  • Student Practical: Herbal Formulations for Various body Systems
  • Planning an herb garden: Culinary, Aromatic, Medicinal, Natural Insecticide, Indigenous African sections and Herb trees.
  • Propagating Plants
  • Test
  • Home assignment: Herbs for various body system disorders and complete discussion list of herbs as required in assignment layout.
