Unit 118
Pathophysiology

Five consecutive days - contact

  • The course deals with the basic concepts of Pathophysiology at the cellular level related to injury, the self-defence mechanism, mutation and cellular proliferation
  • The four major topics to be addressed are Etiology (cause/causes of disease), pathogenesis (the nature of the disease process), complications (other consequences which might arise if the disease progresses), and prognosis (the likely outcome)
  • The course is more concerned with cellular mechanisms responsible for the disease state in conjunction with general mechanisms necessary to reinstate homeostasis, rather than the specific “clinical treatment” aspect of disease.
  • This module will not emphasize epidemiology, pharmacology or molecular biology; the primary focus will be on conceptual understanding of disease mechanisms.
